工作坊:當棉蘭老傳統舞蹈(Pangalay)融入當代劇場
Transcreating the pangalay for contemporary theatre
The pangalay is the Philippines’ closest claim to classical dancing. Its form in both music and dance being popular and widespread in the Southern Philippines contains idioms that can express meanings for both traditional and contemporary subjects. The form links Philippine dance and performance cultures to a larger South East and Asian cultural matrix. Forms that originate from their cultures can more properly express Asian ethics and themes than borrowed forms taken from Western idioms. The workshop allows participants to experience the basic stances of the pangalay and use these stances in combination to produce meaning from cultural materials and scripts.
